Lyrics
FEMALE CHORUS
Jack O’ Lantern Joe.
Jack O’ Lantern Joe.
Isn’t he a naughty boy
To scare us so.
Jack O’ Lantern Joe.
Wonder where he’ll go?
Old Nick fetch him.
Sure to catch him,
Jack O’ Lantern Joe.
JOE
When it’s getting close to winter
And Jack Frost he snoops about
Then it’s fun to take a pumpkin
And to scoop its insides out.
Then you cut a face upon it
With a grin that makes you shout,
And you stick it on a pole
To have some fun.
Now when everything is still
In the shell you put a light,
And you hear somebody comin’
Then you hide right outer sight.
And you shove the jack o’ lantern
In their faces and in fright
They holler as they turn around and run.
CHILDREN
Oh my! Oh Dear!
What is that light so clear?
Jack O’ Lantern Joe,
Jack O’ Lantern Joe,
Isn’t he a naughty boy
To scare us so?
Jack O’ Lantern Joe,
Wonder where he’ll go!
Old Nick fetch him,
Sure to catch him,
Jack O’ Lantern Joe.
Jack O’ Lantern Joe, etc.
JOE
Jennie Jones and Obed Johnson
They were courtin’ yessiree!
So I lit my Jack O’ Lantern
And I hid behind a tree.
Then I waited for their coming
For I know they couldn’t see,
And I heard him call her
Hoo-chee-coo-chey-coo.
O, said he, My darlin’ Jane,
To convince you of my love
I could fight a bear or anything
On earth or up above.
Then I poked my Jack O’ Lantern
In their faces with a shove,
And Obed Johnson hollered as he flew!
CHILDREN
Oh my! Oh Dear!
What is that light so clear?
Jack O’ Lantern Joe, etc.
