Lyrics
A Bumblebee was buzzing
On a Yellow Hollyhock,
When came along a turtle,
Who at the bee did mock.
Saying, "Pritheee Mr. Bumble,
Why make that horrid noise?
It's really quite distracting,
And everyone annoys."
"Im sorry," said, quite humble,
The buzzing droning bee,
The noise is just my bumble,
And natural you see.
And if I didn't buzz so,
I'm sure that you'll agree
I'd only be a big fly,
And not a bumblebee."

The Bumblebee
The Songs of Father Goose
Words by L. Frank Baum
Music by Alberta N. Hall
In 1899 L. Frank Baum wrote Father Goose:His Book. It was so popular that his publisher had the nonsesne verse set to music by Alberta N. Hall and The Songs of Father Goose appeared in 1901. Pages from the original picture book appear at the left.
Little known though is that in February 1911 Victor records issued a recording of Father Goose Songs performed by Sallie Osbourne. The disc featured three songs: The Captain; The Soldier; and The Bumblebee. The first is a previously unknown verse credited to Baum. The other two are indeed from Father Goose.
