Gloria Gottschalk was born April 3, 1910. She was the daughter of Louis F. Gottschalk who composed the music for L. Frank Baum's 1913 stage musical The Tik-Tok Man of Oz as well as the musical scores for Baum's Oz Film Manufacturing Co. films from 1914. Young Gloria meant a great deal to her father and one of the musical pieces from the 1914 film The Patchwork Girl of Oz was called Gloria's Dream Waltz. Gloria also became a part of Oz mythology when L. Frank Baum named Princess Gloria after the young girl. Princess Gloria was a character featured in both the 1914 film His Majesty the Scarecrow of Oz and the 1915 Oz book The Scarecrow of Oz.

Gloria Gottschalk grew up to spend her life working in Hollywood. Beginning in the early 1930's she was a script supervisor at RKO working on such films as Flying Down to Rio and Winterset among others. While at RKO she also worked with Fred Stone (the original Scarecrow from the 1903 Broadway musical The Wizard of Oz). Gloria also worked as a sound editor--her most important movie credit being Disney's Song of the South. In her later years she worked in television as a script supervisor on various programs including Dragnet and The Odd Couple. She was close to actor Tony Randall and came out of retirement to work as script supervisor for Randall's 1980's sitcom Love, Sidney.

Gloria Gottschalk Morgan spent her final years--still living on her own--in Tracy, California. She died on December 28, 2004 at the age of 94. A little-known and important link with the past has broken.
